ABOUT

The VA Agricultural Centers of Innovation is a statewide and coalition-based program housed in Virginia Tech's Department of Agricultural, Community, and Leadership Education. Program activity is currently funded, in part, with an integrated, grant from The Virginia Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services (VDACS) and the VT Foundation Account for Community Viability, with participating schools matching a portion of the costs.

The Virginia Agricultural Education Centers of Innovation grant provides financial and professional support to award winning agriculture teachers for developing innovative educational programs.  The education programs prepare students for jobs that lead to high-skill, high-demand careers in agricultural fields.  Programs also prepare students for admission to colleges or technical training programs.

The Virginia Agricultural Education Centers of Innovation grant is a result of a Virginia Department of Education strategic review of agricultural education conducted in 2013.

Agriculture educators should prepare students for entry-level jobs that lead to high-skill, high-demand careers in agriculture and agriculture related fields, according to the report.  Students should also be preparing through relevant and rigorous course work.
